NEW DELHI: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and CM Delhi Arvind Kejriwal along with seven others have been booked under sedition charges in connection with JNU row in Hyderabad.
A lawyer Janardhan Goud filed a complaint in the court recently and the case is registered in the Saroornagar police station.
Goud claimed that Rahul and other leaders visited JNU campus and supported the students after knowing that police had registered a case of sedition charges against Kanhaiya.
Inspector S Lingaiah said “It is a court-referred matter. Following the court’s directive, a case under section 124A of the IPC (sedition) has been registered against nine persons, including Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Sitaram Yechury, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and others.”
Political leaders condemned the act and called it a political move by RSS-BJP.
JD (U) leader Tyagi said “We will fight it inside and outside Parliament and asked PM Narendra Modi for the definition of national and anti-national.”
Janardhan Gouds filed a petition in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate on Thursday.
Police has already registered a case of sedition charges against Kanhaiya and Khalid for allegedly raising anti-India slogans in the Afzal Guru event in JNU campus.
