Pakistan Russia to jointly work for peace in the region: Russian officials

PESHAWAR: Russia has voiced its concern over the situation in Afghanistan,

saying security in the war-torn country has nosedived in recent years.

The Afghan government had suffered setbacks during operations against the

Taliban , said Dr G. Khozin, consul

general of the Russian Federation in Karachi.

“Our position is that both sides should sit across the table and resolve

the issue. The Islamic State concentration in Afghanistan is a matter of

concern for all,” he added.

In response to a question after an hour-long interaction with the press, Dr

Khozin, described President Donald Trump’s election as the choice of the

American public. The Russian president was willing to discuss issues with

him.

He also spoke in detail about Russia’s position on Europe, the

Palestinian-Israel problem, the Syrian situation and the Islamabad-Moscow

relationship.

Dr Khozin recalled a meeting on the sidelines of the General Assembly

between Russian and Pakistani foreign ministers.

He said they discussed Afghanistan and counter-terrorism.

Both countries were trying to bring about peace in the region, he concluded.
