ISLAMABAD – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) – pursuingacross-the-board accountability approach – has arrested 503 accused personsand recovered Rs. 2580 million from corrupt elements during one year.
The recovery, considered as record achievement, has been returned tohundreds of affected persons and some government departments. Not a singlerupee has been paid to any NAB employee as Bureau’s officers and officialsconsider eradication of corruption as their national duty.
The statistics listing, the last one-year achievements on Thursday showedthat the Bureau has opened its door for citizens for corruption relatedcomplaints and received 44,315 complaints which were thoroughly scrutinizedin scrutiny committees.
On basis of prima facie evidence, 1713 complaints were converted intocomplaint verifications. The complaints were re-scrutinized and after bothsides views, converted into 877 inquiries, subsequently 227 investigationswere ungraded.
The Bureau during the period also convened various Executive Board Meetingsin which various important decisions were taken. NAB filed 440 corruptionreferences in various Accountability Courts during last one year.
More than 1209 corruption references in various Accountability Courts ofthe country are under trial. Besides being apex anti-corruptionorganization, the Bureau has now become a role model institution amongSouth Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) nations.
NAB is the only organization in Pakistan which has approximately exemplaryconviction ratio. This is just because of proactive Anti-CorruptionStrategy not only chalked out by Chairman NAB, Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbalbut also implemented across the board.
NAB is the only organization in Pakistan which has established more than50,000 Character Building Societies (CBSs) in colleges and universities toaware the youth about ill-effect of corruption.

Moreover, owing to across the board actions, eradication of corruption hasnow become voice of whole nation. NABhas perfected its procedures andgeared up to come up to expectations of nation for corruption-free country.
The Chairman has strongly believes that NAB is not for victimizationagainst anyone. NAB has no affiliation with any party as its officers areonly servants of the state. Their first and last affiliation is with Stateof Pakistan.

The Bureau has also been rejuvenated and due to its proactiveanti-corruption strategy by adopting “Accountability for All” NAB hasbecome a vibrant and reputable organization.
Reports and surveys of different reputable national and internationalorganizations like PILDAT, Mishal Pakistan, Transparency International andWorld Economic Forum have appreciated performance of NAB.
