ISLAMABAD – The Federal Cabinet has decided to separate tax policy fromrevenue administration in line with the manifesto of PakistanTehreek-i-Insaf.
The cabinet met in Islamabad on Thursday with Prime Minister Imran Khan inthe chair.
A committee has been constituted to work out legal and technical modalitiesfor this purpose.
The Cabinet reiterated maintaining strict fiscal discipline in the countryfor the purpose of curtailing fiscal deficit and ensuring that theexpenditures and revenue remain within the budgeted estimates.
The Cabinet while considering financial difficulties of PakistanBroadcasting Corporation, especially the issues being faced by theemployees in getting their salaries and pensions, decided to grant 400million rupees as Technical Supplementary Grant in order to provide reliefto the organization.
The Cabinet, however, stressed upon the need for chalking out acomprehensive plan to ensure strict financial discipline and enhancement ofrevenues for the purpose of financially sustainability of the organization.
The Prime Minister directed that no employee working in the government willbe sacked from services.
The Cabinet also discussed in detail the issue of availability of surplussugar stock in the country and the pending payments of the growers. It wasdecided to refer the matter to the Economic Coordination Committee of theCabinet for detailed deliberations and proposing a workable solution toaddress the issue on priority basis.
The Prime Minister reiterated during the meeting that the interests of thesugarcane farmers will be protected while resolving the issue of sugarmills.
The Cabinet approved reconstitution of a ‘Search Committee’ for appointmentto the post of Vice-Chancellor Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto MedicalUniversity Islamabad. The Committee would be headed by Minister for HumanRights Shireen Mazari.
The Cabinet also approved appointment of Ayla Majid, Ghias-ud-Din Ahmed andHamid Ali Khan as independent Directors of Central Power Purchasing Agency(Guarantee) Limited.
Appointment of Faisal Ahmed, Pharmacist Drug Testing Laboratory Quetta asTechnical Member-I of the Drug Court Balochistan Quetta was approved by theCabinet.
The Cabinet approved release of 20 billion rupees in financial year 2018/19for the Fencing and Lighting project of Pak-Afghan border.
It ratified the decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee of theCabinet taken during its meeting on 22 November 2018.
The decisions included grant for disbursement of Provident Fund, Gratuityand payroll due to the heirs of deceased employees of Pakistan Steel Mills,natural gas load management during winter 2018-19 and release of publicsector’s surplus wheat to poultry association of Pakistan.
