Age old Pakistani tradition Suri Jagek approved for UNESCO intangible Cultural heritage

ISLAMABAD – The age-old ‘Suri Jagek’ tradition practiced by the indigenousKalash people, has been approved by UNESCO for inclusion in list ofIntangible Cultural Heritage ICH this year.

The decision has made at the 13th Session of UNESCO’s IntergovernmentalCommittee held in Mauritius.

Permanent Delegate of Pakistan to UNESCO Moin ul Haque, termed the adoptionof the Suri Jagek tradition by UNESCO as an historical achievement.

He said that this achievement also reflects the priority of the currentgovernment to place culture at the heart of its development policy.
