Internet services disrupted in Pakistan as two major submarine cables connecting Pakistan with World went offline

ISLAMABAD -Internet services disrupted in Pakistan as two major submarinecables connecting Pakistan with World went offline, media report hasrevealed.

Two major submarine cables that connect Pakistan with the outside worldjust went offline. As per details available with ProPakistani, IMEWE andSEAMEWE 4, that carry almost 50% of Pakistan’s internet traffic, wentoffline due to a fault at a location that’s yet not determined.

As a result, Pakistani internet users will continue to face degradedinternet speeds until the faults in cable systems are fixed.

ISPs confirmed the outage and said they are in process of shifting the loadto other submarine systems, that will balance the load to an extent,however, services may remain degraded until the full restoration of IMEWEand SEAMEWE 4.

No timeframe has been communicated regarding the repair of both impactedsubmarine cables, sources confirmed ProPakistani.

It may be recalled that Pakistan is connected with the outside worldthrough six submarine cables, a number that’s surpassed by all regionalcountries. Oman, for instance, a country way smaller than Pakistan, has alot more submarine cables landing there.
