The Chief Justice and the Senior Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court conveneda significant gathering on Thursday, bringing together a distinguishedassembly that included the Attorney General for Pakistan, theAdvocates-General, the Prosecutors-General representing the provinces, andthose from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). This confluence oflegal luminaries marked a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s legal landscape.
Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, extended a warm welcome to theesteemed participants, underscoring a noteworthy fact – that the largestlitigants in the Supreme Court are the federal and provincial governments.This highlights the pivotal role played by their law officers withinPakistan’s legal framework, despite historically having limited influenceon its operations. It was an acknowledgment of their significance withinthe legal system.
In a press release following the meeting, CJP Qazi Faez Isa emphasized theimportance of soliciting suggestions from each law officer to enhance theefficiency and functionality of the Supreme Court. This approach signifieda commitment to reform and improvement within the judicial system.
The law officers, during this gathering, expressed their appreciation forthe timely issuance of the monthly cause list for October 2023. However,they also raised concerns about the tardy release of supplementary causelists, which hampered their ability to prepare adequately for their cases.Reassurances were given that these concerns would be taken into account andaddressed.
Beyond these immediate concerns, the meeting served as a platform for theexchange of valuable insights and suggestions. Some of these suggestionsfound immediate acceptance, while others were earmarked for furtherexamination.
The law officers collectively expressed their gratitude to the ChiefJustice and Senior Puisne Judge for convening this historic meeting,recognizing it as a pioneering step in the evolution of Pakistan’s legalapparatus.
