NEW YORK – India’s Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj tried tomislead the international community by accusing Pakistan of sabotaging allopportunities for peace talks.
“We are accused of sabotaging the process of talks. This is a complete lie.We believe that talks are the only rational means to resolve the mostcomplex of disputes. Talks with Pakistan have begun many times. If theystopped, it was only because of Pakistan’s behavior,” said Sushma Swarajduring her speech at UNGA.
The Indian minister acknowledged that Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khanwrote to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi suggesting a meeting betweenforeign ministers in New York and that India accepted the proposal butagain blamed Pakistan for India’s own refusal to hold talks.
New Delhi on September 21 had called off a meeting between the Pakistaniand Indian foreign ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations GeneralAssembly (UNGA), just a day after confirming the development.
