Nawaz Sharif barred from filing exemption plea in Accountability Court

ISLAMABAD – Nawaz Sharif has been barred by legal council from filing pleaseeking exemption from hearing.

As per details garnered, the hearing of the reference was held here inIslamabad today.

Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Haris cross-examined Wajid Zia—the star prosecutionwitness—and posed question about the cash flow and net profit of Hill MetalEstablishment.

Replying to Haris’s question, Zia told court net profit order of HME hadbeen acquired from report of Audit Bureau. He said, “It is neither productof Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) nor was an attempt made toconsult those who prepared these documents”.

Zia—during cross-examination—snubbed Haris over asking technical questions.The judge of the accountability court also barred Haris from going intotechnicalities and asked him not to divert attention from the case. Tothis, Haris replied he had been practicing law for 40 years and Zia knewwhy such questions were posed before him.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor apprised the court reportwas submitted by the defence lawyer. He further added Nawaz Sharif—theousted premier—received 88pc profit HME.
