RIYADH – Saudi King Salman’s elder brother, Prince Bandar bin Abdulazizal-Saud passed away for which the kingdom was gearing up for the funeral onMonday.
“His Royal Highness Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz al-Saud passed away,” theroyal court said Sunday in a brief statement; he aged 96 though the courtdid not elaborate the reason behind his death.
“A funeral prayer will be performed for his soul… on Monday… at the GrandMosque in Mecca,” the court stated and added that condolences on his deathwill be held at his palace in Riyadh.
The prince was the eldest surviving son of Saudi Arabia’s founder, KingAbdulaziz and was not said to be a politically active member of the royalAl-Saud family.
His sons hold key government positions as Prince Faisal bin Bandar is thegovernor of Riyadh while Prince Abdullah bin Bandar is the head of theSaudi National Guard.
