LAHORE – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) PCB takes important decision overMohammad Hafeez Controversy linked with Coronvirus testing.
PCB has decided not to take any disciplinary action against veteranall-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, after the latter opted to undertake a novelcoronavirus (Covid-19) test at a private lab in Lahore.
Hafeez, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) duringphase one of the medical tests conducted for the tour of England, hadtested negative after opting for a second opinion, privately, on Wednesday.
The 39-year-old, in a tweet, shared a snapshot of the test results whileconfirming that he and his family had tested negative upon approaching anexternal source.
The all-rounder’s tweet raised question marks over the testing processbeing followed in Pakistan. The PCB was not happy with the fact that Hafeezreleased the result of his second Covid-19 test, without informing theboard officials first.
After much confusion, the board conducted a retest on Hafeez and otherplayers, who had tested positive in the first round of testing. Accordingto the results of the retests, Hafeez tested negative for Covid-19.
The PCB was initially contemplating taking action against Hafeez. However, since the all-rounder is not centrally contracted with the board, theydecided against it. The board also wants to avoid any further controversyregarding this matter.
The board was worried that if they decide to drop Hafeez from the squad, itcould lead to further controversy. The all-rounder will now travel toEngland after he clears his second Covid-19 test at a later date.
The entire episode has been a cause of embarrassment for PCB and thefederal government is also not happy with it.
