Pakistan reaffirmed commitment to the UN peacekeeping role

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Saturday reaffirmed commitment to ensuring thatpeacekeeping remains an effective mechanism for maintaining peace, securityand stability in the world.

In a statement on the occasion of “International Day of United NationsPeacekeepers being observed on Saturday, Foreign Office spokesperson ZahidHafeez Chaudhri said as one of the top troop-contributing countries,Pakistan deeply values the vital role played by blue helmets in maintainingsecurity and stability in many conflict-ridden areas around the world.

He said we salute the services and sacrifices rendered by UN peacekeepersand reiterate our commitment to continue working with the United Nationsfor advancing the shared ideals of peace, stability and cooperation.

Zahid Hafeez Chaudri said Pakistan is proud of its long-standing andconsistent contributions to UN peacekeeping spanning over six decades.Since 1960, over 200,000 of our servicemen have served with honour andvalour in 46 UN missions in 26 countries in almost all continents of theworld.

The spokesperson said through their professionalism and dedication, ourpeacekeepers have always distinguished themselves in every mission wherethey have participated. One hundred and fifty-seven of our bravestpeacekeepers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty for thecause of international peace and security.
