Top Sikh activist shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR – A social activist and prominent member of the Sikh community inPeshawar was killed on Tuesday “in what appeared to be a targeted attack,”police said.

According to SSP Operations Javed Iqbal Wazir, the incident occured in thePatang Chowk area on Ring Road within the limits of Inquilab police station.

The Sikh activist, Charnjeet Singh, was on his way home from his shop whenunidentified men opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. The attackersimmediately fled after having committed the heinous crime, police added.

Police and rescue workers shifted the body to Khyber Teaching Hospital tocomplete medical formalities.The SSP told that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registeredagainst the unknown miscreants at the Inquilab police station.

He added that no other case of the target killing of a miniority inPeshawar had been reported in the recent past.

“However, in this particular case we have approached the counter terrorismdepartment (CTD) as well and investigations are being carried out from allaspects,” the SSP revealed.
