ISLAMABAD: The National Security Committee met on Thursday to discuss thecountry’s security situation and border issues.
Besides reviewing the implementation of Federally Administered Tribal Areas(FATA) reforms, the top civilian and military leadership also mulled overthe regional situation and issues pertaining to eastern and western bordersof the country, sources added.
A detailed briefing was given to the top civil and military leadership inattendance on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) matter. The operationsconducted against terrorists were also overviewed. Pakistan is likely toshare the steps implemented to eliminate terrorism in the FATF meetingexpected to be held next month, said sources.
Sources said the matter of a controversial book co-authored by former chiefof Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen (retd) Asad Durrani was alsodiscussed in the high-level huddle.link>link>
Durrani, who served as the chief of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agencyfrom August 1990 to March 1992, co-authored a book with former chief ofIndian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) AS Dulat,titled *The Spy Chronicles: RAW, ISI and the Illusion of Peace*.
On Monday, Durrani appeared before Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters(GHQ) to explain his position on the book.
Major General Asif Ghafoor, director-general of the Inter-Services PublicRelations, wrote on Twitter that a formal Court of Inquiry headed by aserving lieutenant general had been ordered to probe the matter in detail.
Durrani’s summoning to the GHQ came after former premier Nawaz Sharif andPakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani voiced theirreservations over the book.
