PMLQ Chief Ch Shujaat breaks silence over reports of rift in the family

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Tuesdaydismissed rumours of rifts within the party after the government announcedits decision to nominate Chaudhry Pervez Elahi for the Punjab chiefminister post, adding that the party decisions were taken “with hisconsent”.

In a statement, shared by PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi on Twitter, the formerprime minister refrained from giving explanations but stated his positionthat he was considered the family leader.

The official handout came after a few media channels reported that therewere reports rifts among the coalition partners of the ruling party afterPML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema announced his resignation from the housingand works ministry. His resignation came after Special Assistant to the PMon Political Communication Shahbaz Gill on Monday announcedlink the government would support PML-Qleader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as a chief ministerial candidate for Punjab.

The Q-league had also announced its support for the PTI in theno-confidence motion. Cheema on Sunday had sought more time from theopposition parties after they contacted him regarding the no-trust vote.

“The number of youth in the assembly is more than in the past and blamingthem or doubting them is wrong,” it read, “Monetary dealings should not bementioned, especially as educated people don’t approve of it.”

The PML-Q leader added that false propaganda and distorting facts were veryinappropriate.

“I was informed that there are rifts in my family. There is no truth insuch baseless news. For the past 50 years, our family is not just spread inPunjab but all districts of the country,” Shujaat said.

He added that the party decisions were taken with his consent. Shujaatalleged that some people were trying to get political benefits by creatingwrong propaganda pertaining to rifts. “They will be very disappointed whenthey will see and will be shown that they are saying the wrong thing orbeing told to say such things.”
