NEW DELHI: A Congress leader threatens to cancel the Indo-Pak match in T20 Cricket World Cup which will be played in Dharmshala on March 19 in honour of Pathankot attack victims.
He claimed that 2 victims of Pathankot terror attacks belong to Himachal Pradesh and there could be a security threat for Pakistani players and their fans.
Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister MP Kumar said in a letter to PM Narendra Modi “Himachal Pradesh is the land of brave soldiers and two martyrs of the terror attack in Pathankot were from this area and a memorial is located just a few meters from the cricket stadium where the match is to be played.”
Former minister Manokita said “Lakhs of in-service and ex-servicemen families are living in the State and they would feel hurt and cheated if a team from Pakistan comes here.”
He said “When the Indo-Pak talks can be cancelled after the terror attack, why not the cricket match.”
Himachal Pradesh Congress also urged BCCI to cancel the match or shift the venue and demanded the 50% income of eight other matches.
Several Congress and BJP leaders condemned the event and warned the BCCI and HPCA that they are organizing the match at their own risk.
