ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) sought all medical reports of former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in a petition seeking his release on bail and suspension of his imprisonment sentence in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.
The IHC bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani asked the legal team of former prime minister that what did the medical board say about Nawaz’s health condition. Had it suggested any special treatment for him, it further inquired.
Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Haris read the two medical reports of his client before the bench and argued that his Nawaz’s family had serious concern over his health situation. He prayed the court to separately hear this petition from the main appeal against the trial court’s verdict in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.
Haris pleaded that Nawaz Sharif was suffering from a kidney problem and his disease was at third stage. The medical board had suggested to shift the former prime minister to a hospital for proper treatment, he added.
After hearing the arguments, the bench sought all medical reports of Nawaz Sharif, besides serving notices to the respondents in the case for February 6.
It may be mentioned here that the IHC had already fixed February 18 to hear Nawaz’s appeal challenging his punishment in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case.
