LAHORE - Punjab government has challenged the Sahiwal encounter verdict of ATC in Lahore High Court (LHC).
According to details, on the direction of Prime Minister Imran Khan Punjab government has submitted an appeal against the verdict handed down by a special anti-terrorism court (ATC) acquitting all suspects in the Sahiwal encounter case.
In the appeal, it has been objected that court has ignored facts while pronouncing the verdict.
The appeal has requested that legal proceedings be taken against witnesses who defied their statements, whereas, criminal proceedings should be held against those who conducted faulty investigation.
The appeal also calls for the dismissal of ATC’s verdict in Sahiwal incident.
An anti-terrorism court had earlier acquitted all the accused in Sahiwal encounter incident by giving them benefit of doubt.
In January, Muhammad Khalil, his wife and their three children were travelling in a car, with their neighbour Zeeshan behind the steering wheel, when Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel stopped the vehicle and opened fire on the passengers suspecting them to be terrorists.
