Islamabad: Former law minister Farogh Naseem on Thursday categorically denied the media reports that he along with the Attorney General was scolded by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bajwa.
Addressing a presser here in Islamabad, Naseem apprised that tenure of COAS would not expire after six months.
“Two governments came into power after 18th Amendment. Why this issue was not addressed”, inquired the senior lawyer.
“We are patriotic Pakistanis. We must support Pakistan Army and General Bajwa”, added Naseem while stating, “All stakeholders must display responsible behavior on such delicate issues.”
Naseem further apprised that extended tenure of the army chief will begin after 12PM.
Present on the occasion, Shehzad Akbar stated that only simple majority was required to for amendment in Army Act.
Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan—who was also present in the presser—said that to legislate on the matter of an Army chief's appointment and extension of tenure "will be a matter of pride for the government".
