The estranged PPP leader Jehangir Khan Tareen seemed to be landing into hot water again in the mega sugar scandal as the Federal Investigation Agency has started preparing the working papers for his arrest.
Sources said on Friday that the FIA link had expedited its inquiry into the manipulative role of sugar baron Jehangir Tareen link regarding the hike in sugar price through Satta (speculative price management).
The agency’s probe once again was being headed by Muhammed Rizwan who was earlier removed as head of the probe team and Abu Bakr Khuda Bakhsh was appointed as head of the FIA link team in the wake of an ‘expected rapprochement’ between government and pro-Tareen group of parliamentarians. But once again the reins of the probe were given to Dr Rizwan.
According to the sources, after the visit of PM Adviser on Accountability Shehzad Akbar, the FIA link accelerated its efforts to dig deep into the scam.
The FIA link has prepared the progress report on the investigation into the cases registered against Tareen and his family members. It also attached the forensic audit report of the accounts of Tareen and his company.
NAB once again summons Pervez Malik
In another development into sugar scandal investigations, the National Accountability Bureau, Rawalpindi on Friday once again summoned Member National Assembly Pervez Malik on June 2.
According to the sources, NAB directed Mr Malik, who was a former commerce minister, to bring all the record, minutes of Economic Coordination Committee meetings and data used to determine sugar prices along with him.
The anti-corruption watchdog had already summoned ministers from Punjab.
Mr Malik did not turn up during last NAB inquiry. However, he sent a written reply to the NAB. But the NAB was unsatisfied with former minister’s reply.
