BEIJING: Chinese Defence Minister Wei Fenghe says China and the United States can only develop together if we maintain no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
He was talking to his visiting US counterpart Jim Mattis in Beijing.
Chinese Defence Minister told Mattis that China upholds peaceful development and China’s military unswervingly protects the country’s sovereignty, security and development interests.
Mattis said, he was in Beijing because of the importance that they in the US military place on the military-to-military relationship with People’s Liberation Army.
Mattis is visiting against a backdrop of spiraling tension between Beijing and Washington over trade. He invited Wei to visit him at the Pentagon.
