ISLAMABAD: (APP) Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid on Thursday said the government will establish authority to deal with climate-change issues.
The minister expressed these view during a meeting with Canadian Acting High Commissioner in Pakistan Stuart Savage and Counselor Trade and Commercial Allison Steward.
"Pakistan is establishing Climate Change Council consisting of all Chief Ministers to deal with climate-change issues. Pakistan has federal and provincial Environmental Protection Agencies to deal with environmental issues. Prime Minister has launched Green Pakistan Programme to preserve forestry and wildlife" he said.
Zahid Hamid said Pakistan is preparing detailed research based on Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC's) for COP-22 and formulated a team of experts for this purpose.
The High Commissioner was informed that Canadian companies are also working on small solar projects in Pakistan.
The Canadian High Commissioner appreciated the efforts of Pakistan's government to tackle climate-change effects and assured to extend their support.
