Taliban Shifts Blame of Three Chinese Citizens Killings in Tajikistan

ISLAMABAD: The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has expressed profound griefand solidarity with the People’s Republic of China and the Republic ofTajikistan over the murder of three Chinese nationals in Shamsiddin Shohindistrict of Khatlon province.

In a strongly worded statement, the Afghan foreign ministry condemned the“tragic incident” in the strongest terms and extended heartfelt condolencesto the bereaved families of the victims.

Preliminary assessments suggest the attack was carried out by elementsseeking to sow instability, insecurity and mistrust among regionalcountries, the statement added.

The Islamic Emirate assured Tajikistan of complete cooperation inuncovering the facts behind the incident and offered full support inintelligence sharing, technical assistance and joint investigations.

Kabul reiterated its readiness to work closely with Dushanbe to reach thebottom of the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The ministry once again conveyed deep sympathy to the families of thedeceased Chinese citizens and prayed for the departed souls.

Regional analysts view the incident as part of broader efforts to underminegrowing cooperation between Central Asian states and major powers includingChina.

The attack comes at a time when Beijing has significantly expanded itseconomic and security footprint across Central Asia through variousinfrastructure and connectivity projects.
