BEIJING – Top Chinese official responds over the Afghan Taliban and US newround of talks.
Zhang Jun, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, at aplenary meeting of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday called on the USand Taliban to continue negotiations, Xinhua reported.
He also elaborated on his country’s position regarding Afghanistan andintroduced efforts to help Afghanistan move forward with peace andreconciliation, strengthen security capacity-building and promote economicand social development.
The international community should continue to provide support andassistance to Afghanistan, he said, saying that China supports promoting anAfghan-led and Afghan-owned inclusive political process.
He also called on all parties involved in the Afghan conflict, includingthe Taliban, to seize the historic opportunities and launch intra-Afghannegotiations to reach a political framework acceptable to all parties assoon as possible, he said, TOLO News has reported.
