PM Imran Khan responds over Supreme Court verdict in COAS General Qamar Bajwa tenure extension case

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan responds over Supreme Court verdictin COAS General Qamar Bajwa tenure extension case.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday said the Supreme Court’s decision togrant a six-month extension to army chief General Qamar must be a “greatdisappointment” to those expecting instability in the country due to a“clash between institutions”.

The premier added that it is a “special disappointment” for the country’s“external enemies and mafias within”.

“Mafias who have stashed their loot abroad and seek to protect this loot bydestabilising the country,” said the prime minister on the micro-bloggingsite Twitter.

The three-judge bench headed by Justice Khosa announced the short order andruled that General Bajwa will serve as the army chief for six more monthsbased on the undertaking submitted by the government.

The undertaking states that the parliament will draft legislation on theissue of an army chief’s tenure within six months.

Lauding his party’s struggles, he said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was thefirst party to advocate for an independent judiciary.

He also said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was the first party toadvocate independent Judiciary and rule of law.
