After the new constituency delimitations, the number game for the selectionof the Prime Minister has changed. Now, 169 votes will be required tobecome the Prime Minister. Following the issuance of the new constituencydelimitations by the Election Commission, the new Prime Minister will need169 votes to be elected.
Previously, according to the old constituency delimitations, 172 members’support was required to elect the Prime Minister. The total number ofgeneral seats in the National Assembly has reduced to 266, with 60 reservedseats for women, bringing the total number of seats in the NationalAssembly to 326.
It should be noted that the Election Commission released the list of newconstituency delimitations recently. The preliminary constituencyboundaries report is available on the Election Commission’s website, alongwith the maps of the constituency boundaries.
The announcement of the preliminary constituency boundaries will remainopen for 30 days until October 26th, during which objections related to theconstituency boundaries can be filed by the voters of the respectiveconstituencies.
The Election Commission has stated that decisions on objections will bemade from October 28th to November 26th. Those collecting objections mustbe registered voters of the respective constituencies, and they can obtainthe constituency maps from the Election Commission after paying a fee.
According to the Election Commission, the population of Islamabad, thefederal capital, is 2,363,863. There are 3 seats for the National Assemblyin Islamabad, with a quota of 787,954 for one National Assembly seat.
