In the Indian state of Assam, a major in the Indian Army, who had subjecteda domestic worker to violence, was arrested along with his wife. Accordingto media reports, the officer was identified as Shailendra Yadav, who wasposted in Himachal Pradesh. He had married a woman named Kemi Ralsan inDima Hasao, Assam, two years ago.
When he was transferred from Assam to Himachal Pradesh, he and his wifebrought along their young domestic worker. The officer’s wife not only madethe domestic worker do all the household chores but also subjected her toviolence, including pouring hot water on her and tearing her clothes.
The affected girl reached her family on September 24th and informed themabout the violence she had endured. Following this, a complaint was filedwith the police. After registering a case against the culprits, they werepresented in the Hailakandi Judicial Magistrate’s Court, where an arrestwarrant was issued against them and they were arrested.
