India has made a last-minute alteration to their 15-member squad for theupcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. They have decided to replace AxarPatel, the spin-bowling all-rounder, with the experienced spinnerRavichandran Ashwin. This modification was necessitated by Axar Patel’sfailure to recover in time for the World Cup due to a left quadricepsstrain he suffered during India’s Asia Cup Super Four match againstBangladesh, as per an announcement by the ICC.
As a direct consequence of this injury, Axar Patel was unable toparticipate in the final of the Asia Cup. To fill this void in the squad, the selectors opted for Ravichandran Ashwin, a right-arm bowler who had animpressive performance in a three-match series against Australia. In justtwo games, he managed to secure four crucial wickets.
Axar Patel had initially been conditionally named in the squad for thefinal One Day International (ODI), subject to his fitness. Unfortunately,he missed the game, which India lost by 66 runs in Rajkot. With the WorldCup on the horizon, India is gearing up for their first match againstAustralia scheduled for October 7. Prior to that, they will engage in twowarm-up matches, the first against England on September 30, followed by afixture against the Netherlands on October 3.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma emphasized the team’s clarity regarding their15-member squad. He emphasized that they are unwavering in their vision forthe tournament. Sharma stressed the importance of every player contributingto the team’s success, highlighting that championships are won throughcollective effort. He also underscored the significance of maintainingphysical fitness and freshness throughout the next one and a half months, recognizing that it’s a critical factor in achieving success in a demandingtournament like the World Cup.
