The Taliban in Afghanistan has declared that it has apprehended 200individuals for carrying out lethal cross-border attacks against Pakistan.These actions were undertaken as part of an effort to curb terroristactivities in the region. The Afghan leadership disclosed thesedevelopments during bilateral discussions held in Kabul with a high-leveldelegation from Islamabad.
The dialogue was convened in the wake of a terrorist attack on two PakistanArmy checkpoints in the Kalash area of District Chitral, resulting in thetragic loss of four soldiers on September 6, according to theInter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The Afghan Taliban took action by detaining 200 members of the outlawedTehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who were believed to have been involved inthe Chitral attack. These detainees now find themselves behind bars, asreported by VOA. However, the situation is still unfolding, and theoutcomes of these measures are yet to be determined. An anonymous officialemphasized the need to exercise patience and allow time for these effortsto solidify before drawing any conclusions.
In response to these developments, Pakistan dispatched a high-leveldelegation to Kabul, led by Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s special representativeon Afghanistan. Accompanied by senior military officials, the delegationengaged in extensive discussions with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir KhanMuttaqi and his team.
At the time, officials in Islamabad expressed optimism regarding the talks,describing them as “promising.” These discussions mark a significantdiplomatic effort in addressing the security concerns between the twoneighboring nations.
