Afghanistan’s top leadership is grateful to Pakistan

Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan DrAbdullah Abdullah has commended conciliatory and sincere efforts being madeby Pakistan to take the Afghan peace process to logical conclusion.

He was talking to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad onMonday.

Dr Abdullah Abdullah expressed his gratitude to Pakistani leadership overits role in the Afghan peace process.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan backs a peaceful and durable politicalsolution of Afghanistan’s conflict through an afghan led and afghan ownedpeace process.

The Foreign Minister said Pakistan, as a shared responsibility, has beenplaying the role of facilitator in the Afghan peace process.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the US-Taliban peace agreement and later theintra afghan dialogue held in Doha have raised the prospects of durablepeace in Afghanistan. He said the Afghan leadership should seize thishistoric opportunity and undertake serious efforts to take the Afghan peaceprocess to logical conclusion.

He said we will also have to keep an eye on the spoilers who do not wantpeace and stability in the region.

The Foreign Minister said the international community will have to comeforward for the reconstruction and economic stability of Afghanistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan desires dignified return of millions ofAfghan refugees to their homeland.

The Foreign Minister said Pakistan respects the territorial integrity andsovereignty of Afghanistan, and wants to develop strong economiccooperation with the neighboring country.
