Several countries pledge support for flood affected people of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – In response to the flood disaster in Pakistan, severalcountries including United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkiye, Iran, Canada andQatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) announced their support for the floodaffectees.

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Saturday activated its disasterinformation management centre and announced immediate allocation of$100,000 to provide relief for the affected people.

Also, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received telephone calls fromPresidents of Iran and Turkiye.

President Ebrahim Raisi and President Erdogan conveyed solidarity withPakistan and assured all out support in relief assistance in all areasaffected from heavy floods and rains.

The prime minister thanked President Raisi and President Erdogan for theirsympathies on the flood situation and stressed that Pakistan had beenenduring severe monsoon weather since mid-June.

Shehbaz Sharif underlined that the humanitarian situation is beingcompounded by drastic impact to infrastructure including roads and bridgeswhich is impeding both passage of people to safer locations and delivery ofaid.

Highlighting the government’s efforts in this regard, Shehbaz shared thatPakistan had prepared a “UN Flash Appeal” which would be launched onTuesday.

The prime minister expressed the hope that international community wouldcontribute towards meeting the funding requirements of the Flash Appeal.

In the bilateral context, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed commitment to boostrelations in all areas. He also conveyed appreciation for Turkey and Iran’ssteadfast support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Separately, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that hiscountry is providing support to Pakistan through United Nations CentralEmergency Response Fund and Red Cross Canada to provide food, clean waterand other essential services as quickly as possible.

In a tweet, he said like many other Canadians, he is also thinking ofeveryone, affected by devastated flooding in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, in a Tweet message,also expressed her deep concerns about the flood situation saying that wewill continue to support the people of Pakistan.

She said the images of floods in Pakistan are absolutely heart-breaking.
