PTI divided over alliance with MQM

KARACHI – *PTI leader Dr Arif Alvi has confirmed that his party is incontact with the MQM-P on both provincial and national levels.*

The MQM-P has managed to secure 6 national assembly seats from urban areasin Sindh.

On July 27, PTI leader Jehangir Khan Tareen had contacted MQM-P convenerKhalid Maqbool Siddiqui and discussed a possible alliance between the twoparties.

A meeting between the leaders of the two parties is expected in a day ortwo.

On the other hand, the newly-elected PTI MNAs and MPAs have objected totheir party’s decision to seek MQM-P’s help in forming the federalgovernment. They are of the opinion that an alliance with the MQM-P woulddamage the PTI because, according to them, the people of Karachi gave themthe mandate to get rid of the Karachi-based party.

“Karachi’s people gave us the mandate in Imran Khan’s name,” said one MNA.“Why did we even contest elections if the party had to form an alliancewith the MQM-P?”
