LAHORE –Over the issue of Ishaq Dar repatriation to Pakistan, PTIgovernment faces a setback, sources have revealed.
The British laws are the greatest hindrance in repatriation of formerfinance minister Ishaq Dar, sources said.
Sources added that it would be first decided in UK courts weather the caseagainst Ishaq Dar is political or not. Pakistan will have to prove that thecases against PML-N bigwig are not political.
UK authorities have clarified that Ishaq Dar’s extradition possible iflegal aspects fulfilled. Sources further said Dar’s political asylum willplay an important role in the case.
Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability ShahzadAkbar claimed that British authorities have agreed to extradite formerfinance minister Ishaq Dar to Pakistan under a memorandum of understanding.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Akbar said that an agreement inthis regard has been reached, but extradition documents for Dar have yet tobe signed.
He said that following the ratification of the document, Dar will berepatriated to Pakistan after being produced before a magistrate.Akbar said that the entire process will be completed soon.
On July 28, 2018, a five-member Supreme Court bench had ordered NAB to filethree references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and one againstDar, on petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Imran Khan,Jamaat-i-Islami’s Sirajul Haq and Awami Muslim League’s Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.
