The new government will be winding up the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC) Authority by merging it with the CPEC secretariat.
The previous government had set up the Authority in 2019 through anordinance. Its former chairman was retired Lieutenant General Asim SaleemBajwa, who took charge in November 2019 for four years but resignedprematurely in August 2021.
After rolling out the CPEC Authority, the CPEC secretariat was madeinactive during former prime minister Imran Khan’s tenure. But now thesecretariat, which consists of two wings — the CPEC Support Project and theCPEC Centre of Excellence — has been made operational again.
