Supreme Court takes strong exception over PM Imran Khan’s statement

ISLAMABAD:

Supreme Court Judge Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel has taken strong exceptionto Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement in which he alleged that PakistanMuslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader Nawaz Sharif is trying to woo judgesagainst the PTI-led government.

Justice Alam noted that observations and questions by the judges during thehearing of the presidential reference have an impact outside the court. Healso referred to the premier’s statement. However, Attorney General forPakistan Khalid Jawed Khan said that they should not be influencedby happenings outside the court.

Another member of the bench, Judge Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, wonderedas to whether the prime minister should restrain from giving suchstatements.

The justice said that it seems the premier has no confidence in the highestjudiciary of the country and MNAs have no confidence in the premier.

However, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial said that they are notinfluenced from statements given by political leaders.
