Islamabad: Islamabad High Court on Monday barred the Election Commission ofPakistan (ECP) from taking action against Prime Minister Imran Khan forviolating the election code of conduct.
According to details, the Islamabad High Court heard the plea regarding theviolation of the ECP code of conduct by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
During the hearing, the counsel of the election commission apprised thecourt that plaintiffs violated KP Local Government Act 2013.
IHC directed ECP to not disqualify or impose fines on anyone till the nexthearing; however, if any violation of the code of conduct is reported, thecommission can issue notices.
The court adjourned the hearing till April 6 and sought arguments in thenext hearing.
PM Imran and Asad Umar, in their petition, had argued that public officeholders can now run election campaigns after new legislation.
Asad Umar had argued that the election commission does not have theauthority to interpret the law.
