JEHLUM – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has inaugurated a heritage trailat Al Biruni point of Nandana Fort in district Jhelum on Sunday.
The project was undertaken as part of the Prime Minister’s vision topromote tourism in line with the National Tourism Strategy 2020-30, thataims to encourage tourism at the sites of historic significance andnational heritage.
The prime minister is keen to preserve and conserve the Nandana Fort siteand convert it into an international tourism site.
The site’s archeological significance dates back to 11th century whenfamous scholar Abu Rehan Al-Biruni during his stay quantified thecircumference of the Earth.
Later, he wrote a famous book about the region and mentioned Nandana as agreat center of learning.
There are six more historic sites near the Nandana Fort including Nandanatemple, Katas temple, salt mines of Khewra, Malot Fort and Throne of Babur.
These sites will become part of the heritage trail and the tourists canvisit these places in one go.
The premier will also inaugurate Tilla Jogian National Park and Salt RangeNational Park. These two parks have been included in the six protectedareas.
