MOSCOW:In Syria, Russia ordered a daily truce from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the creation of a humanitarian corridor to let civilians leave the area.
However, the Russian call for a five-hour truce failed to hold as Syrian government warplanes struck the eastern Ghouta region today (Tuesday).
Damascus accused rebels of shelling the corridor and preventing any aid from reaching the besieged Syrian enclave.
Air strikes were also reported by a war monitoring group, although a Syrian military source denied them.
The United Nations said on-going combat had made it impossible to bring in aid or rescue the wounded.APP/AFP
