UNITED NATIONS: A UN human rights expert has raised concerns about possible effects of France's new anti-terrorism laws on fundamental human rights, especially for the country's Muslims.

In a statement, the UN Special Rapporteur on protection of human rights, Fionnuala Ni Aolain, said she is particularly concerned that tough new security laws passed last November, may disproportionately stigmatize and further marginalize Muslim citizens.

She said it is clear that Muslim community in France have been primarily subject to exceptional measures both during the state of emergency and the new law, in tandem with other counter-terrorism measures.
