ISLAMABAD: Refurbishment and upgradation of Mangla power station was in progress for the enhancement of capacity of power generation, state minister for parliamentary affairs said.
He was replying to questions of member parliaments on behalf of minister for water and power.
He said all 10 units of the dam would be upgraded after which the generation capacity of the dam would be 1,310 MW which earlier was 1,000 MW.
He said an amount of Rs 6,688 .566 million had been incurred on the refurbishment and upgradation of the dam however the work would be completed by 2023.
Giving a breakup of the funds received for the project, the minister said that the ministry would provide Rs 117 million whereas US aid had provided US$150 million besides other funding from DFID.
Regarding compensation to the land providers for Mohmand dam, the minister replied that the problem would be resolved in the light the jirga decision and steps were being taken in this regard.
To another question of transparency in dam funds, the minister replied that present government sternly believed in accountability and transparency and the dam funds would be managed in transparent manner.
Member national assembly Mohsin Dawar raised a point that there was an eminent threat of drowning local population due to the construction of Tangi dam II to which the federal minister for National Highways Authority Murad Saeed said that the project was properly planned.
He said the government was working hard to provide maximum facilities to the people of trible areas.
