Three Policemen Martyred in Hungu Militant Attack

ISLAMABAD: Three policemen were martyred on Wednesday when militantsattacked a police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hungu district. Theincident took place on Shahu Road, where armed assailants opened fire onthe security post before fleeing.

District Police Officer Khan Zeeb Mehmund confirmed the casualties to BBCUrdu, stating that all three victims were police personnel. He added thatsecurity forces immediately retaliated and launched a search operation inthe surrounding areas to trace the attackers.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the assault and directedInspector General of Police to submit an immediate report on-ground report.He ordered deployment of additional contingents to the site and ensuredprompt medical assistance for any injured personnel.

Addressing the incident, the chief minister declared that terrorists haveno religion and such cowardly acts cannot dampen the resolve of the peopleor security forces. He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment tocontinue the war against terrorism with renewed determination.

The attack comes amid a surge in militant activities across parts of KhyberPakhtunkhwa following the collapse of peace talks with banned outfits.Security forces have intensified operations in the region to curb risingviolence.
