ISLAMABAD: Motorcycle-borne terrorists launched a cowardly attack on apolice checkpoint in Mandan area of Bannu late Tuesday night during routinechecking. The assailants opened indiscriminate fire, attempting to overrunthe post and create panic in the region.
The alert policemen on duty responded with exceptional courage andprecision, immediately returning fire and forcing the attackers to retreat.Their swift action prevented any casualties among security personnel andcivilians, effectively foiling the assault.
Following the incident, Deputy Inspector General Bannu Region Sajjad Khanissued immediate directives. District Police Officer Yasir Afridi rushed tothe scene along with SP Rural Mahmood Nawaz Khan, DSP Rural Riaz Khattak,and SHO Mandan. Heavy police contingents, including Quick Response Force,Rapid Response Force, and armoured personnel carriers were deployed.
A large-scale search and cordon operation was launched in surrounding areasto trace the fleeing terrorists. The operation continued through the nightas additional reinforcements strengthened the security ring around Mandanand adjoining localities.
As a result of the successful counter-action, one terrorist was killed onthe spot while another sustained serious injuries. Authorities are workingto establish the identity of the slain attacker through biometric and otherforensic methods.

DIG Sajjad Khan and DPO Yasir Afridi commended the bravery andprofessionalism displayed by the police team. The DIG announcedcommendation certificates and cash rewards for officers who participated inrepelling the attack.
Both officers reiterated the resolve of Bannu police to eliminate themenace of terrorism, stating that such swift responses would continue tosafeguard citizens and maintain peace in the region.
