ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Air Force is finalising preparations for theimminent launch of its first indigenously developed nano satellite, markingthe country’s entry into operational space-based assets under militarycommand.
Senior officials confirmed on Wednesday that the satellite, developedjointly by the PAF’s Air Headquarters and the National University ofSciences and Technology, has completed all ground tests and awaits finalorbital slot allocation.
The cube-shaped satellite, weighing under ten kilograms, will be placed inlow Earth orbit through a foreign launch provider before the end of thismonth, sources familiar with the project said.
Equipped with high-resolution imaging and communication payloads, theplatform will provide real-time intelligence, surveillance andreconnaissance capabilities to field commanders.
The project represents a major milestone in Pakistan’s space programme, which until now remained largely under the civilian Suparco domain withlimited military participation.
Defence analysts describe the development as a natural extension of thePAF’s air dominance doctrine into the space domain, especially in view ofregional competitors advancing similar capabilities.
The launch will coincide with renewed emphasis on self-reliance instrategic technologies under the current military leadership.
