Indian Military Intelligence Delegation Faces Major Snub in Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD: A visiting Indian Army Military Intelligence delegation suffereda significant diplomatic embarrassment during its recent trip to Bangladeshwhen no senior officer from the host 10 Infantry Division received the team.

The delegation arrived at the divisional headquarters in Ramu with aprepared dossier containing several grievances but was denied anyhigh-level engagement throughout the visit.

Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam, General Officer Commandingof the strategically important 10 Infantry Division, declined to meet theIndian team, according to military sources familiar with the matter.

Unit commanders under the division, which oversees areas adjacent toMyanmar’s troubled Rakhine state, also refrained from holding formaldiscussions with the visitors.

The division’s area of responsibility includes the sensitive Cox’s Bazarregion that hosts over a million Rohingya refugees and borders restivenorthern Rakhine.

The absence of customary military courtesy extended even to routineprotocol meetings, leaving the Indian delegation without opportunity topresent its concerns formally.

Observers describe the incident as a public setback for India’s militaryoutreach efforts in Bangladesh amid shifting regional dynamics.

The cold reception follows months of strained civil-military ties betweenNew Delhi and Dhaka after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government inAugust.

Bangladesh’s interim administration has adopted a more balanced foreignpolicy approach while reviewing previous security cooperation agreements.

The episode underscores growing challenges for Indian securityestablishment in maintaining influence within Bangladesh’s powerful armedforces.
