ISLAMABAD – Senior PTI leader and senator Azam Khan Swati has been detainedonce again by Federal Investigators in a case related to controversialtweets and statements against military leadership.
Reports in local media said the defiant politician was taken into custodyfrom his farmhouse located in the federal capital Islamabad early morning.The outspoken politician was detained a day after he addressed the party’srally in Pindi last night where he criticized military leadership.
A case has been lodged against Mr Swati in FIA’s cyber crime wing, undersections related to offenses against dignity of a person. Sections 131,500, 501, Section 505, and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) were alsoincluded in the recent FIR.
The FIR stated that the PTI leader, along with two other social mediausers, started a highly obnoxious campaign against institutions and seniorgovernment functionaries, including outgoing army chief on a microbloggingplatform.
In one of his tweets, the senior politician mentioned going after a seniorarmy official at every forum. FIA held him on grouds on ‘intimidatingtweets’ which aimed to ‘harm the state’.
Former human rights minister Shireen Mazari shared a clip of a seniorpolitician, saying Mr Swati has been arrested again by federalinvestigators after Azadi March speech where he asked some questions.
In the clip, the PTI leader can be heard hurling allegations against theoutgoing chief. Swati said he stands for rule of law and called on lawyers,senators, and bar members to oppose laws that allow the torture of anycitizen.
