ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan is not happy with the NationalCricket.
He has expressed displeasure over the team selection and was dissatisfiedwith Pakistan’s preparation for the forthcoming World Cup 2019.
PM Khan made these remarks during a meeting with the PCB delegation led byChairman Ehsan Mani.
The delegation met PM Khan to brief him about the steps taken for thebetterment of cricket in the country and to seek approvals of the newcricket structure in the country.
“Don’t brief me about cricket, I have grown old playing cricket inPakistan,” Khan responded to Haroon Rasheed’s briefing.
He was unhappy with the current team selection committee and urged thecommittee to come out of “compromises” to select a compatible team.
“Next time the [team] selection should be better,” Khan said, adding thatPakistan should send a well-prepared unit in the World Cup.
PCB’s boss assured Prime Khan, who also happens to be the patron-in-chiefof the PCB, of doing a better job in terms of team selection in the future.
The premier also congratulated PCB boss Ehsan Mani for successfully hostingeight matches of the PSL 4 successfully in Pakistan and announced thatpreparations for organizing the whole season of PSL 5 in Pakistan wouldstart soon.
With no official details available to the meeting, his remarks seem to beaimed at the team management’s decision to drop the permanent captain aheadof the mega event on account of ‘resting’.
The team management, including the coach and chief selector Inzimam-ul-Haq,dropped six key players from the squad for their series five-match ODIseries against Australia in the UAE, including the skipper Sarfraz Ahmed.
Sources acquainted with the matter said Sarfraz was initially was not infavor of the decision and wanted to lead the team against Aussies, butInzimam had to talk him out of it.
