*ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan is all set to launch ‘Ghurbat MitaoProgramme’ across the country today.*
The prime minister will launch the programme at a ceremony in Islamabad.The initiative was approved by the premier in a meeting with Dr. SaniaNishtar, chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme.
Under the programme, an amount of Rs 120 billion has been earmarked toalleviate poverty.
In a statement, PM Khan had earlier said the government was now taking thefirst major step towards eliminating poverty. “The care for people is theutmost priority of the government,” he stated.
“We will mobilise all resources to alleviate poverty.”
He said that experience and expertise of China would be followed to makethis programme result-oriented.
In December last year, PM Imran had said poverty alleviation and upliftingthe poor segments of society was top priority of the government.
Khan had said the government was preparing a comprehensive programme thatwould not only help cater to the basic necessities of the poor people ofthe country temporarily but also play a key role to bring them out ofpoverty clutches.
He had issued directives for a close coordination among differentprogrammes working to cope with the poverty alleviation challenges.
