CPEC Cabinet committee meeting reveals positive progress on mega projects

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor(CCoCPEC) was held under the Chairmanship of the Federal Minister forPlanning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Asad Umar, here today.

The CCoCPEC reviewed the progress of the various projects that had beenundertaken by the Working Groups under the CPEC. The attendees were briefedabout the overall progress of the CPEC projects in Industrial Cooperation,Energy, Infrastructure, Gwadar, Science and Technology, Socio-EconomicDevelopment, Agriculture, and Transport & Communications, and the hurdlesin their implementation.——————————

The committee noted that significant progress had been achieved in variousprojects, and the Chairperson remarked that the CPEC is a priority projectof the enhancement of the Pak-China economic cooperation.

He stressed that the ministries and divisions should maintain the momentumof the CPEC projects and that they should follow timelines for their earlycompletion. He added that the second phase of the CPEC that focuses onindustrial cooperation will significantly enhance the benefits of the CPECfor both sides.

The committee also emphasized that unresolved inter-ministerial issuesshould be brought before the CCoCPEC directly by the concerned ministriesalong with recommendations for their resolution.——————————

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan, theForeign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Federal Minister for MaritimeAffairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, the Federal Minister for Food Security andResearch Syed Fakhar Imam, the Minister for Economic Affairs MakhdoomKhusro Bakhtyar, the Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati, the Adviser tothe Prime Minister on Commerce & Investment Abdul Razak Dawood, the Advisorto Prime Minister for Institutional Reforms & Austerity Dr. Ishrat Hussain,the Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, and officials from variousministers and divisions.
