The Afghan Taliban have imposed restrictions on trading in foreign currencies throughout the country, giving a 10-day deadline to switch businesses to the local currency. According to reports, the transitional Taliban government in Afghanistan has banned trading in foreign currencies, including the Pakistani Rupee, in bordering areas connected to Pakistan.
The Taliban, through announcements via loudspeakers in vehicles, are instructing traders not to engage in commerce with any foreign currency, including the Pakistani Rupee. The Taliban authorities have stated that all traders and businesses must cease operations in foreign currencies within 10 days.
Further announcements through loudspeakers have warned that strict action, including currency confiscation, will be taken against those conducting business in foreign currencies after the 10-day period.
According to the report, trading is currently taking place in Pakistani Rupees and US Dollars in various cities in Afghanistan.
