ANKARA - An earthquake of 5.7 magnitude shook Istanbul on Thursday, an official of Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute said.
The epicenter of the quake was 70 kilometers west of Istanbul in Marmara Sea, he added. Witnesses felt buildings shake in the city during the quake. So far, no loss of life or damage was reported.
On September 24, 2019, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake also struck southwest of Istanbul, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said. The quake hit at a depth of 5.36 kilometers (3.33 miles) near the Silivri district, according to AFAD.
The quake was also felt in neighbouring provinces. -APP/AFP
